Sunblock contains chemicals harmful to coral reefs

The same substance millions of Americans use to protect themselves from the harmful rays of the sun can potentially harm coral reefs around the world. Several chemicals often found in many name brand products have the ability to stimulate an inactive chemical associated in a symbiotic relationship with coral that eventually kills the coral. Not only this but this harmful enzyme spills into neighboring plants eventually "bleaching" the surrounding reef. Scientists estimate that as much as 10 percent of the worlds reefes can be affected by this phenomena. The ingredients of paraben, cinnamate, benzophenone, and a camphor derivative can completely bleach coral in as little as four days.
